What reseller hosting is and who it suits

Reseller hosting is a wholesale model: you buy a block of hosting capacity from a provider and divide it into accounts you sell under your own name. The provider runs the hardware and network; you own the customer relationship, the pricing and the brand.

  • You buy at wholesale and sell at your own retail price.
  • Each client gets a separate hosting account with its own login and limits.
  • The provider keeps the server, network and updates running.
  • You handle the client, the invoice and the first line of support.

It suits web designers bundling hosting with a build, agencies managing several client sites from one panel, and small hosts who want their own brand without a datacentre. WebJi®'s reseller hosting plans carry the tiers; this page explains the model itself.

How WHM and cPanel split the work

WHM is the reseller's control panel: it creates packages, opens cPanel accounts and sets disk, mail and database limits. Each client then signs in to their own cPanel, which shows only their site, mail and files under your brand.

The split matters when something breaks. A client cannot see or change another client's account, and you cannot edit files inside a client's cPanel without their password or a reset. Reseller hosting is not the same as shared hosting, where you hold one account and no client logins.

White-label branding: your name on the account

White-label means the client deals with your company, not the upstream host. Private nameservers such as ns1.yourbrand.com, your logo in the panel, your invoice header and your support address all point at you.

The upstream provider stays invisible unless you choose to name it. Check before you buy whether the plan includes private nameservers and panel branding, because some entry plans leave the provider's hostname in the client's DNS records.

What a reseller manages day to day

Daily work is account-level: creating and suspending accounts, setting quotas, helping with DNS, WordPress and email, checking backups and renewals, and invoicing clients. None of it needs root access to a server.

You do not manage the operating system, kernel updates, network or hardware. Those stay with the provider, which is the reason the model works for a one-person studio as well as an agency.

How support is split between reseller and provider

The reseller is first-line support: password resets, DNS changes, plugin conflicts and billing questions. The provider is second line: server faults, network incidents, panel updates and anything that needs root.

Decide your response promise before you sell. If you answer client tickets in the evening, say so; the provider's 24/7 desk covers infrastructure, not your customer's WordPress question.

How reseller hosting margins actually work

Your margin is the retail price you charge minus the wholesale cost of the account, payment fees and the 18% GST you collect on your own sale. Thin reselling of the same plan rarely pays; the margin comes from bundling design, maintenance or email.

Price per account, not per gigabyte. A client with three mailboxes and a small WordPress site costs you a fraction of the disk you allocated, and support time is the real cost driver. WebJi® quotes reseller plans by email before payment, so the wholesale figure matches the resources you actually need.

Reseller hosting vs affiliate programs

A reseller buys capacity and owns the client, the price and the support. An affiliate refers a customer to the provider for a commission and never controls the account, the pricing or the renewal.

Choose reseller when hosting is part of what you sell and you want the recurring relationship. Choose affiliate when you only want a referral fee and no support load. The guide to starting a hosting company as a reseller walks through the first ninety days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is reseller hosting and how does it work?

You buy hosting capacity wholesale from a provider, then sell accounts to your own clients under your brand. WHM creates the accounts and the provider runs the servers.

How is reseller hosting different from shared hosting?

Shared hosting gives you one account for your own site. Reseller hosting gives you a WHM panel to create many separate cPanel accounts for clients.

Can I make money with reseller hosting in India?

Yes, if you bundle design, maintenance or email around the hosting. Reselling the same plan at the same price leaves almost nothing after costs and GST.

Do clients know I am reselling hosting?

Not when the plan is white-label. Private nameservers, panel branding and your invoices keep the upstream provider out of the client's view.

What is WHM used for?

WHM is the reseller control panel. It creates hosting packages, opens cPanel accounts, sets limits and manages nameservers for every client you host.

Do I need technical skills to start reselling?

You need to be comfortable with DNS, email setup and WordPress basics. Server administration stays with the provider, so root-level skills are not required.

Do I need my own domain and nameservers?

A branded domain helps, and private nameservers such as ns1.yourbrand.com complete the white-label setup. Some plans let you start on the provider's nameservers.

What happens to client sites if I leave the provider?

You migrate each account to the new provider, update nameservers and keep the old service live until DNS resolves. Plan the move account by account, not all at once.

Is WebJi® an Indian company?

Yes. WebJi® is headquartered in Jaipur, Rajasthan and has operated since 2005. Billing, support and governance all run from India.

Do you provide GST invoices?

Every purchase and renewal gets a GST invoice with our GSTIN, and hosting prices are quoted exclusive of 18% GST. Claim input credit as applicable.
