Com Domain Registration — What You Get
.com was one of the first top-level domains, delegated in 1985, and Verisign runs the registry. It began as the commercial extension and became the default for every kind of site, so a .com address is still what most people type when they half-remember a brand.
Names run 2 to 63 characters, terms run 1 to 10 years, DNSSEC is supported, and internationalised names are allowed through their ASCII form. There is no eligibility test and no document check: the registry accepts registrations from any country.
Who Can Register a .com Domain Name
Anyone can register a .com name: a company, a shop, a freelancer or a student, with no documents and no local presence. The registry asks only for accurate registrant contacts and a label that follows its rules.
- Allowed characters: letters, digits and hyphens; a hyphen cannot start or end the name.
- Internationalised names: registered in their ASCII form, so a Hindi word is entered in transliteration.
- Premium names: the registry prices some short or common labels above the standard rate, quoted before you pay.
- First completed order wins: a name is not held while you decide.
What a .com Domain Is Used For
A .com address is the default for a business website, a professional email address and a brand that expects to be typed from memory. It is also the name people guess first, which is why buying it protects you from a near-miss domain.
Consultants, stores, SaaS products and publishers all use it for the same reason: no explanation is needed. An Indian exporter selling to buyers abroad will usually start here rather than with a country domain.

Indicative market bands for planning, read on 30 October 2026 — the renewal column is what the second and later years cost, before 18% GST.
.com Renewal, Transfer and Expiry Rules
A .com term runs 1 to 10 years and renews in the same blocks, at the renewal band rather than the first-year rate. Renewal reminders go to the registrant email, so keep that address reachable and turn auto-renew on.
After expiry the name keeps about 45 days of auto-renew grace, then 30 days of redemption where the registrar charges a recovery fee, then a 5-day pending-delete window before it returns to the open market. A dropped .com is not held for the previous owner.
To transfer, unlock the name and take its authorisation code from the current registrar, then approve the email sent to the registrant address. A completed domain transfer adds one year, and a name is locked for 60 days after registration or transfer.
.com vs .in and .co for an Indian Business
Choose .com for a brand that sells outside India or wants the neutral default, .in or .co.in when Indian identity is the selling point, and .co only for a short global name. The extension is not a ranking factor; content and links decide placement.
- .com — global default, ₹900–1,200/year indicative, renewal ₹1,000–1,400.
- .in — NIXI's country domain, ₹500–800/year indicative, reads as Indian.
- .co.in — NIXI's commercial second level, ₹500–900/year indicative.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a .com domain cost in India?
WebJi lists .com at ₹900–1,200 a year for registration and ₹1,000–1,400 for renewal, read on 30 October 2026 and before 18% GST. Premium names cost more and are quoted before payment.
Who can register a .com domain?
Anyone, anywhere: a company, a shop or an individual, with no documents and no local presence. Names run 2 to 63 characters, and the first completed order wins.
How long can I register a .com domain for?
From 1 to 10 years per order, and renewal uses the same 1 to 10 year blocks. Set auto-renew before expiry, because the site stops resolving on the expiry date.
Why does a .com renewal cost more than the first year?
The first year is often discounted while the renewal is charged at the normal rate. On this page that is the ₹900–1,200 registration band against the ₹1,000–1,400 renewal band, both before 18% GST.
Does .com include WHOIS privacy?
.com registries publish limited registrant data under ICANN rules, and a privacy service hides the rest. We confirm what applies to your order before you pay, rather than promising it silently.
How do I transfer a .com domain to WebJi®?
Unlock the name at your current registrar, take its authorisation code, start the transfer and approve the email sent to the registrant address. A completed transfer adds one year to the term.
Is .com better than .in for an Indian business?
The extension is not a ranking factor, so neither wins on SEO alone. Choose .com for a global brand and .in or .co.in when Indian identity is the message; many businesses hold both.
