What an SSL certificate costs in India

In India a single-domain DV certificate is free with hosting because Let's Encrypt is included, or ₹1,800 a year bought commercially at WebJi. A wildcard is ₹7,500 a year and code signing ₹7,200. OV, EV and multi-domain certificates cost more, and every WebJi price is before 18% GST.

Start with the free certificate, not the paid one. Every WebJi hosting plan includes Let's Encrypt, which issues a domain-validated certificate that renews automatically every 90 days. For a blog, a brochure site or a small shop, that is the whole cost: zero.

Paid certificates buy a different thing, not stronger encryption. They add a warranty, a validated business identity or coverage for many hostnames. The table below is the paid range at WebJi, read on 30 October 2026.

WebJi prices before GST

Three products cover almost every request. Each price is for one year, in INR, before 18% GST; the invoice shows the tax separately.

CertificateCoversPrice (₹/year)
Sectigo Positive SSLwww and non-www of one domain (DV)1,800
Sectigo Positive SSL WildcardOne domain plus all its subdomains7,500
Sectigo Code Signing SSLSigning software installers and executables7,200

Let's Encrypt is ₹0 on any hosting plan and is a DV certificate, the same validation level as Positive SSL. OV and EV certificates are quoted per requirement because the validation work and the issuing authority differ. Ask support@webji.services for that quote before payment.

Why the same SSL has four prices

The word SSL covers four separate purchasing decisions. Two certificates can encrypt identically and still differ by a factor of ten, because the price is not for the encryption.

  • Validation level: DV checks domain control; OV checks the registered business; EV adds a stricter review of the organisation.
  • Coverage: one hostname, one domain with www, a wildcard for every subdomain, or a SAN certificate for several unrelated domains.
  • Term: a three-year prepayment usually lowers the yearly rate, and the renewal after it is the number that matters.
  • Service: self-installed, automated, or fully managed with reinstallation handled for you.
  • Warranty: paid certificates carry a payout if the CA mis-issues; a free certificate carries none.

Encryption strength is not on that list. Every one of them can run TLS 1.3 with a 2048-bit key. If the question is "will the padlock show", the free certificate answers it.

What a competitor charges

GoDaddy India listed three DV options on 29 October 2026, all priced monthly on a three-year term: basic self-installed at ₹269 a month, AI-assisted automated at ₹349, and fully managed at ₹329. Read at godaddy.com/en-in/web-security/ssl-certificate.

₹269 a month across 36 months is about ₹9,684 for the term, or roughly ₹3,228 a year. The monthly figure is not a yearly price, and the term is part of the offer. Compare it with WebJi Positive SSL at ₹1,800 a year before GST, and note that the managed option includes installation that the basic one does not.

Reseller storefronts that advertise "₹1 a day" convert a USD price at their own exchange rate and usually apply it to a promotional first term. The renewal is the honest comparison.

When free is enough and when it is not

Free DV is enough whenever the buyer needs encryption and the padlock: a blog, a portfolio, a brochure site, a small store. It is not enough when a contract, a marketplace or a procurement team asks for a named CA, a warranty or a validated organisation.

How to buy without overpaying

Four questions settle the purchase before you look at a price. Ask them in this order, because the answer changes which product you need.

  1. Count the hostnames: one domain, one domain with www, or many subdomains. That decides single, wildcard or SAN.
  2. Decide the validation level: DV unless a buyer or a contract asks for OV or EV.
  3. Read the renewal, not the intro price, and check whether the term is one, two or three years.
  4. Confirm who installs it and whether the invoice shows GST, so the business can claim input credit.

If the site is already on WebJi hosting, the free certificate is installed from cPanel under Security, then SSL/TLS Status, and the SSL certificate page lists the paid options. A browser warning after installation is usually a mixed-content problem, covered in fix the not secure warning.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an SSL certificate cost in India?

At WebJi, Sectigo Positive SSL is ₹1,800 a year for one domain with www, the wildcard is ₹7,500 a year, and code signing is ₹7,200, all before 18% GST. Let's Encrypt is free with every hosting plan. OV and EV certificates are quoted per requirement.

Is a free SSL certificate enough?

For encryption and the browser padlock, yes. Let's Encrypt is a domain-validated certificate that renews automatically every 90 days. It does not carry a warranty or verify your business identity, which is what OV and EV buyers pay for.

What is the price difference between DV, OV and EV?

At WebJi, DV is ₹1,800 a year and OV or EV is quoted because validation work and the issuing CA differ. A DV certificate verifies domain control; OV verifies the registered business; EV adds a stricter review. All three encrypt identically.

How much is a wildcard SSL in India?

At WebJi, Sectigo Positive SSL Wildcard is ₹7,500 a year before 18% GST, covering one domain and all of its subdomains. A multi-domain SAN certificate is a different product; ask for a quote if you need several unrelated domains.

Why do SSL prices vary so much between providers?

Term length, validation level, coverage and who installs it. A headline per-day or per-month price usually sits on a multi-year term and a promotional first year; the renewal is the number to compare.

Do I get a GST invoice for an SSL purchase?

Yes. Every WebJi certificate is invoiced in INR with 18% GST shown separately, so a registered business can claim input credit. The price on the page is before that tax.
