What an EV SSL Certificate Verifies
What EV verifies is the organisation, not just the domain. A Domain Validated certificate proves control of the email/DNS — anyone with the password can get one. An EV certificate makes the certificate authority verify, per the CA/Browser Forum's EV guidelines: the legal existence of your entity (via official registry records — for Indian companies, the MCA/Registrar of Companies records), your physical address, your operational phone number (a verified callback, not a number you typed in), and that the certificate request is authorised by someone with actual authority in the organisation.
The result, visible to anyone who opens the certificate details: the registered company name and jurisdiction embedded in the certificate, vouched for by the CA. That verification depth is the product — everything else (warranty, site seals) is packaging around it. EV is the top validation tier: the certificate authority performs legal existence verification of your registered entity before issuing — organization validation made stronger.
What EV Adds Over DV and OV Validation
DV proves control of the domain, OV adds the company behind it, and EV repeats the company checks at a deeper level and records the result in the certificate. Encryption is the same TLS 1.3 for all three; what changes is how much the certificate authority verified.
| Type | What the CA checks | What a visitor sees | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| DV | Domain control by DNS record or file upload | Padlock | Blogs, brochure sites, staging domains |
| OV | Company registration plus domain control | Padlock; company in certificate details | Business sites and online stores |
| EV | Legal existence, physical address, phone callback, authorised signer | Padlock; company in certificate details | Tenders, gateway onboarding, vendor checks |
Why Browsers No Longer Show the Green Bar for EV
Chrome removed the company name from the address bar for EV certificates in version 117, released in September 2023. Safari and Firefox had already dropped the green bar, so the padlock now looks the same for DV, OV and EV.
The verified company is still inside the certificate. Open the padlock, choose Connection and read the organisation and jurisdiction; the check happened, it is just not shown to a casual visitor any more.
When an EV Certificate Is Still Required in India
EV is still named in some government and PSU tenders, by payment-gateway risk teams during onboarding, and by enterprise procurement when a site will hold customer data. In each case the buyer wants the company verified before signing, not a browser display.
Outside those checks, an Indian customer will not notice the difference between OV and EV. Nothing about the encryption or the padlock changes.
SSL Certificate Prices in India: EV Quoted per Order
Sectigo Positive SSL for a single domain is ₹1,800 a year and the wildcard is ₹7,500 a year, both before 18% GST. EV is not a fixed store item because the CA price depends on the brand and the number of domains, so it is quoted per order in INR before payment.

How WebJi® Issues and Installs an EV Certificate
The order runs through WebJi® rather than a self-service form, and most EV orders finish in one to five working days once the documents are clean.
- Send the registered company name, registered address, a working business phone and the name of the person authorised to sign.
- We pre-check those details against the CA's list so a mismatch does not stall validation.
- The CA verifies registry records, address and phone, then issues the certificate.
- We install it on your WebJi® hosting, add the intermediate chain and force HTTPS.
- You get a browser check and the renewal date in writing; renewal is handled by the same team.
Who Should Buy an EV Certificate in India
Buy EV when a tender, gateway or procurement team names it, or when the certificate details form part of a due-diligence pack. For a blog, brochure site or small store, a domain-validated certificate gives the same encryption for less.
Ask the buyer which certificate they accept before you order. The SSL certificate range lists the DV and wildcard options if EV is not mandatory.
Why WebJi® Issues EV Certificates for Indian Companies

- Since 2005, hosting and certificates on one GST invoice.
- INR billing, so renewal does not move with the dollar rate.
- Installation, chain and HTTPS redirect handled on WebJi® hosting.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an EV SSL certificate cost in India?
EV is quoted per order in INR before payment, because the CA price depends on the brand and how many domains the certificate covers. Ask for the figure by email and you see it before you pay; the DV and wildcard certificates listed on this page are fixed at ₹1,800 and ₹7,500 a year.
Is EV SSL still worth it?
For most Indian small business sites, no. Chrome no longer shows the company name in the address bar, so a visitor sees the same padlock. EV earns its price when a tender, payment gateway or procurement team asks for it by name.
What verification does EV SSL require?
The CA checks your company's legal existence in official registry records, verifies the physical address and a phone number by callback, and confirms that the person ordering the certificate is authorised to sign for the company.
How long does EV SSL take to issue?
Most orders finish in one to five working days after the CA receives clean documents. Delays usually come from a registry record that does not match the name you gave, an unanswered phone callback, or a signer who is not on record.
Do browsers still show the company name for EV?
No. Chrome removed the company name from the address bar in version 117, released in September 2023, and Safari and Firefox had already dropped it. The verified company is still inside the certificate details, which anyone can open from the padlock.
What is the difference between EV and OV SSL?
OV verifies that your company exists and controls the domain. EV repeats that work at a deeper level: legal existence, physical address, a verified phone callback and an authorised signer, all recorded in the certificate.
How much does an SSL certificate cost in India?
Sectigo Positive SSL for one domain is ₹1,800 a year, Positive SSL Wildcard is ₹7,500 and Code Signing SSL is ₹7,200, all before 18% GST. EV is quoted per order.
What is the difference between DV, OV and EV?
DV checks domain control only and issues in minutes; OV adds company verification; EV adds legal existence, address, phone and signer authorisation. Encryption is identical across all three, so only the identity check changes.
