How to Install WordPress on DirectAdmin

Quick answer: On a DirectAdmin account with Softaculous, open Extra Features, choose WordPress, and click Install. Leave the directory blank so the site uses the domain. The dashboard at /wp-admin means it worked. WebJi® shared Linux plans use cPanel instead of this panel.

Installing WordPress on DirectAdmin means Softaculous under Extra Features, with Directory left blank, until /wp-admin shows the dashboard. Use File Manager only when that installer is missing. WebJi® shared Linux plans use cPanel, not DirectAdmin.

Where do you install WordPress in DirectAdmin?

Look under Extra Features for Softaculous, then open WordPress. Some builds hide Softaculous and show WordPress Manager under Advanced Features instead. Use whichever icon is on the account. A domain must already exist, and that domain should be on PHP 8.1 or newer before you install.

WebJi® shared Linux plans do not include DirectAdmin. They use cPanel, and those clicks are in the cPanel install guide. DirectAdmin is an optional add-on on a Linux VPS only when the quote names it. That add-on is quoted by email before work starts.

Shared plans that already include one-click WordPress, without this panel, are listed on Linux hosting. Do not follow the steps below on a cPanel or Plesk login. The menus will not match.

  • Softaculous under Extra Features, or WordPress Manager under Advanced Features.
  • Directory left blank so the site uses the domain.
  • PHP 8.1 or newer on that domain.

What do you click to install WordPress with Softaculous?

Use this path when Softaculous is on the account. It creates the database and writes the configuration. You choose the domain and the admin login.

  1. In DirectAdmin, open Extra Features, then Softaculous. Select WordPress, then Install.
  2. Set the protocol to https, select the domain, and leave Directory empty so the files use the domain root.
  3. Enter the site name, an admin username that is not admin, a long password, and an email you can open.
  4. Click Install and wait until Softaculous shows a success message and the admin URL.

You are done when a private window on the domain shows the default theme and that admin URL accepts the login. The URL is usually the domain plus /wp-admin.

If the account has WordPress Manager instead, open Advanced Features, click Install on the domain row, leave the folder name empty, and click Create. The same /wp-admin check applies. If either installer shows an error, email that sentence to support@webji.services. Do not start a second copy in another folder.

When should you install WordPress by hand?

Use File Manager only when neither Softaculous nor WordPress Manager is on the account. Download the current zip from WordPress.org. In DirectAdmin, open File Manager, go to domains/yourdomain.com/public_html, upload the zip, and extract it.

The zip unpacks into a folder named wordpress. Move the files inside that folder into public_html. If you leave them there, the site loads at /wordpress/ and the domain still shows a placeholder.

Before you open the domain, create the database. Open MySQL Management, create a database and a user, and write down the full names. DirectAdmin adds the account name as a prefix.

Which database values does the installer want?

Softaculous and WordPress Manager fill the database fields for you. The browser installer, after a manual upload, asks you to type them. The host is localhost unless the welcome email names another host. Use the prefixed database name, user, and password from MySQL Management.

Leave the table prefix as wp_ unless that prefix is already in the same database. Submit the form, set the site title, and choose an admin username that is not admin. The dashboard means it finished.

The installer writes wp-config.php. Open that file only when the four database values are wrong. If the next screen cannot connect, the name, user, password, or host does not match. The database connection error guide walks through those four fields.

  • Prefixed database name, user, and password from MySQL Management.
  • Host: localhost, unless the welcome email names another host.
  • Table prefix wp_ when it is free.

What should you change after the install?

Log in at the admin URL. Under Settings, then Permalinks, choose Post name and save. Delete the sample post when you are ready to publish. A theme is a separate job after the dashboard loads.

If the public site stays on http, open the domain's SSL Certificates screen and issue Let's Encrypt, then set the WordPress address to https. Email support@webji.services if the certificate does not issue. The mailbox is staffed 24/7 in Hindi and English, and the average first reply is under 60 minutes. The office phone is not a support line.

What if the DirectAdmin install fails?

A value in Directory, or files left inside the wordpress folder, puts the site in a subfolder. Remove that copy and run the installer once with the directory blank so the files land in public_html.

If the screen says PHP is not running, the domain has no PHP handler. Do not edit wp-config.php again and do not upload a second copy. Email support@webji.services with the domain so PHP can be turned on for that site.

If the screen says WordPress is already installed, do not create a second database. Open /wp-login.php and use the lost-password link. A database connection error means the name, user, password, or host is wrong.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install WordPress on DirectAdmin?

On an account that has Softaculous, open Extra Features, then WordPress, and click Install. Leave Directory blank, choose https, and log in at /wp-admin. The dashboard means it worked. WebJi® shared Linux plans use cPanel, not this panel.

Does DirectAdmin include Softaculous?

Not on every account. Look under Extra Features for Softaculous, or under Advanced Features for WordPress Manager. A minimal server may have neither, and then you use File Manager. WebJi® does not put DirectAdmin on shared Linux plans.

Can I install WordPress on DirectAdmin without Softaculous?

Yes, if WordPress Manager is also missing. Upload the WordPress.org files into public_html, create a database in MySQL Management, and run the browser installer with the prefixed name, user, password, and localhost.

Where does DirectAdmin store WordPress files?

For the main domain they belong in domains/yourdomain.com/public_html. A folder name in Directory, or files left inside the wordpress folder, stores the site off the domain root.

What database host do I enter?

Use localhost unless the welcome email names another host. The database name and user include the DirectAdmin account prefix from MySQL Management. Softaculous fills these fields for you.

What if WordPress says PHP is not running?

The domain has no PHP handler. Email support@webji.services with the domain. Do not edit wp-config.php again, and do not call the office phone for support.
