What ERP hosting means for a small business
ERP hosting is the computer that stores the ERP database and runs its workers. The small business still uses Odoo, ERPNext or a vendor SaaS app. Hosting is only where that app lives.
- On-prem means the server sits in your office. You buy the hardware, the power backup and the person who patches it.
- Hosted ERP means the same software on a VPS or cloud server you rent by the month.
- SaaS means the vendor runs the software and bills every user, every month.
A brochure site can live on shared hosting, which is the usual best web hosting for a small business website. The ERP cannot. It needs root access, a database service and background workers. That server is the small business web server, including for a retail shop's stock, not a WordPress plan.
Hybrid ERP still needs that server. The database stays with you, and only one module is rented.
Odoo, ERPNext and SaaS ERP for a small business
Odoo, ERPNext and a SaaS ERP solve the same shop problem with different bills. Compare the licence before you compare the server.
| Option | Licence | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Odoo | One app free on Odoo Online; other apps paid per user | CRM, sales, inventory and accounting when you want that app store |
| ERPNext | Modules free under GPL; you still pay for the server | GST billing and inventory when a developer can maintain it |
| SaaS ERP | Per user, every month | A team with nobody to patch a server |
ERPNext is the lower software cost when a developer can look after it. Odoo adds paid apps once you leave the free one. SaaS is the choice when nobody will patch a server. The longer comparison is Odoo versus ERPNext. Self-hosted Odoo, including PostgreSQL, is quoted on the Odoo hosting page.

GST billing and inventory on a hosted ERP
GST billing on a hosted ERP is a tax rate on each invoice line, an HSN or SAC code on the item, and stock that moves when you sell. A purchase receipt adds stock. A sales invoice removes it and adds GST. A stock take fixes the gap.
Odoo and ERPNext can do that only after the Indian tax templates are configured. E-invoice and e-way bill files come from those invoices. Hosting the server does not file GSTR-1.
More than one location is one company with separate warehouses, not two spreadsheets. ERPNext hosting describes that install and what support covers.
RAM, CPU and workers for Odoo and ERPNext
Odoo and ERPNext are not shared-hosting apps. A few people working at once fit on 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM. Reports and imports need more memory.
| Load | Starting size | What else to set |
|---|---|---|
| A few people at once | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM | PostgreSQL for Odoo, or MariaDB and Redis for ERPNext |
| Several people and reports | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM | Odoo workers at about twice the CPU count plus one |
| Large imports | 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM | A separate memory budget for the database |
On Odoo, set workers to about twice the CPU count plus one, and leave RAM for PostgreSQL. On ERPNext, run Redis and the scheduler as their own services so background jobs do not fight the people typing invoices.
Backups are part of the server quote, not a WordPress plugin. Ask for a daily copy of the database before you go live.
Linux shared L-Basic is ₹300 a month before 18% GST, read on 30 October 2026 from the billing price file. It is a cPanel plan for a website. It is not an Odoo or ERPNext runtime. WordPress hosting is the same mismatch.
On-prem hardware versus a VPS for ERP hosting
On-prem ERP hosting means you pay for a machine once, then for power, disks and a person after that. This site does not publish that hardware price. A rented server is a monthly figure you can read.
| Path | What you pay | Figure read 30 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| On-prem server in your office | Hardware, power and patches | Not published on this site |
| Cloud Entry | 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB, before 18% GST | ₹5,900 / month |
| Cloud Business | 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB, before 18% GST | ₹7,900 / month |
| Cloud Pro | 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB, before 18% GST | ₹11,900 / month |
| Linux VPS for Odoo or ERPNext | Quoted before payment | Email support@webji.services |
Those three prices are the Windows cloud-server rows in the billing file, before 18% GST, read on 30 October 2026. Odoo and ERPNext usually run on Linux. A Linux VPS is quoted at support@webji.services before you pay. See VPS hosting for root access. The ERP price is still a quote.
SaaS is a different unit. Via laurea listed Odoo from €22.90 per user per month in the first year on a yearly Lithuania price, read on 30 October 2026. Cloudmaven put small-business cloud ERP at €38 to €200 per user per month, plus a €5,000 to €30,000 implementation, on the same date.
Do not subtract those user fees from a server rental and call one side cheaper. The units are not the same, and 18% GST still sits on the WebJi® invoice.
MilesWeb listed Cloud Startup at ₹299 a month on a 36-month term, ₹10,764 for 36 months, with 5 GB RAM, on 30 October 2026. That page sells it as website cloud hosting. It is not the same unit as a cloud VM with a fixed vCPU count.
Moving from Tally or spreadsheets to hosted ERP
Moving from Tally or spreadsheets is a data project with a cutoff date. It is not a button in the hosting panel.
From Tally, masters such as ledgers and stock items usually import cleanly with a partner's mapping tool. Historical vouchers usually stop at a cutoff, with an opening balance carried over, because replaying years of bills rarely pays.
From spreadsheets, export clean CSVs for customers, items and opening stock, import them, and fix the rows that fail.
- Freeze a start date and export masters: ledgers, items and customers.
- Import those masters and enter opening balances. Leave old vouchers behind the cutoff.
- Train the two people who already enter the bills.
- Run Tally and the new ERP together, then cut over at a quarter boundary.
Budget the weeks where both systems run. Skipping that parallel period is how an ERP project loses a month of bills.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which ERP is best for small businesses in India?
For GST billing and stock, ERPNext keeps every module in one free codebase and you pay for the server. Odoo fits when you want its paid apps and can budget a per-user licence. If nobody on the team can maintain a server, use a SaaS ERP and pay that user fee instead.
Can I self-host Odoo or ERPNext on a VPS?
Yes. Both need root access, a database and a worker process. ERPNext also needs Redis and a scheduler. WebJi® quotes a Linux VPS by email before payment. Shared cPanel, including L-Basic at ₹300 a month before 18% GST, is not that server.
How much does ERP hosting cost per month?
Published WebJi® cloud servers, read on 30 October 2026, are ₹5,900, ₹7,900 and ₹11,900 a month before 18% GST. Those rows are Windows cloud SKUs. A Linux VPS for Odoo or ERPNext is quoted at support@webji.services before you pay. SaaS ERP is a separate per-user licence.
Is cloud ERP better than on-premise for a small business?
A VPS or cloud server is the better default when you do not want to buy hardware or staff a server room. On-prem is rational only if you already have a machine, someone to patch it, and a reason to keep the database in the office. The ERP software can be the same in both cases.
Do Odoo and ERPNext handle Indian GST?
Yes, after Indian tax templates, HSN or SAC codes and the invoice series are configured. E-invoice and e-way bill files come from those invoices. Hosting the server does not file GSTR-1 for you.
What server specs does Odoo need?
Start with 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM for a few people at once. Use 8 GB when several people run reports together, and 16 GB for large imports. Set workers to about twice the CPU count plus one, and leave RAM for PostgreSQL.
Is ERPNext free to host?
The ERPNext software is free. Hosting is not. You still pay for the VPS or cloud server, backups and whoever applies updates. Odoo Community is free software too, but many accounting apps sit on a paid per-user licence.
