Zerodha Algo Trading VPS

Quick answer: A Zerodha algo trading VPS is a remote Windows or Linux server that keeps your bot running. It is not a Zerodha account, a demat account or a Kite login. You still use your own broker account and API keys. Order the server on the trading VPS page, then point the bot at that machine.

A trading VPS is a server, not a Zerodha account

A trading VPS is a remote Windows or Linux computer that stays on, so your bot keeps running when your laptop sleeps. It is not a Zerodha account, not a demat account, and not a Kite login. You still open and fund the broker account yourself. This page does not sell that account and it does not restate regulator text.

Order the machine on the trading VPS page. WebJi supplies the server. Zerodha supplies the trading account and the API keys, from their own console.

Run the bot on Windows or Linux

Match the operating system to the program. A Python bot that talks to Kite Connect runs on Linux or on Windows. A Windows-only charting or bridge app needs a Windows VPS. The API keys are created in your own Kite Connect app. WebJi cannot see that console and does not issue the keys.

Keep the keys out of a public code repository. A private file on the VPS, with permissions limited to the user that runs the bot, is the usual place.

Static IP whitelisting for Kite Connect

Zerodha's Kite Connect documentation says you must whitelist a static IP address, and order rates must stay within 10 orders per second per client account. A VPS with a fixed address meets the first rule without your home IP changing mid-session.

  1. Copy the VPS IPv4 address from the control panel, not from a what-is-my-IP website.
  2. Open the Kite Connect app console you own and add that address in the allowed-IP field.
  3. After market open, place one small test order and confirm it is accepted before sizing up.
  4. Keep the address for the life of the app. A new IP has to be whitelisted before the bot trades again.

The fixed address itself is described on the static IP VPS page. WebJi® cannot see your Kite console, so the whitelist step stays yours.

What SEBI's algo rules require of your setup

SEBI's retail algo framework took effect on 1 August 2025: orders generated by an algorithm must be tagged, API access must be controlled, and the broker must approve the algo you run. The static IP is one control, not the whole rule.

ControlWho owns itWhat it means for your bot
Strategy and codeYouYour logic, your risk; the server only runs it
Static IP and serverYou, with the VPS providerA fixed address the broker can whitelist
API access and order rateZerodhaApp approval, IP whitelist and the 10 orders-per-second cap
Algo tagging and registrationBroker, under SEBI and exchange rulesOrders carry an algo identifier; unapproved strategies are blocked

None of this makes a strategy profitable. Algo trading can lose money, and a server only keeps the process running; it does not choose trades, guarantee fills or promise a latency figure.

Put the bot on the VPS

Kite Connect access tokens expire daily, so the bot needs a login step or a token-refresh job each morning before 9:15. The server runs the process; it does not sign in to Zerodha for you.

  1. Note the VPS address and log in over SSH or remote desktop.
  2. Install the runtime the bot already uses on your PC, such as Python.
  3. Copy the bot. Do not copy API secrets into a public folder.
  4. Run it once in the foreground and read the log before market hours.
  5. Set the process to start when the VPS boots, so a reboot does not leave it stopped.

Latency: what a hosted server does and does not change

Hosting removes home broadband variance and puts the bot on a data-centre link that is closer to the broker's Mumbai systems. It cannot beat the broker's order queue, and no provider can promise a fixed millisecond figure for your strategy.

  1. Ask the host for a test IP in the same location as the plan you will buy.
  2. From that server, ping api.kite.trade during market hours, not at midnight.
  3. Record the median of twenty pings, not the best one.
  4. Compare the same measurement from your home line before you decide to move.

Home line versus a hosted server

A bot on a home PC stops when the machine sleeps, the power drops, or the broadband address changes. A VPS is in a data centre with a connection that is not your house line and an address the broker can whitelist. That is the reason to move it, more than any speed claim.

Where to order the server and what it costs

WebJi® prices the trading servers in INR on the trading VPS page, before 18% GST, with a GST invoice on every purchase. Pick the Windows plan for a Windows app and the Linux plan for a Python bot; a Windows-only bridge will not run on Linux.

Several strategies can share one VPS when the CPU and memory you ordered can carry them. If the VPS restarts during market hours, the process stops until it starts again. Orders already accepted by the broker are not cancelled by that reboot. Start the process on boot and watch the log when the market is open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which VPS is best for Zerodha algo trading?

A Linux VPS for a Python bot using Kite Connect, and a Windows VPS if the program is a Windows app or a bridge. Match the operating system first, then RAM to the strategy you already run on a PC.

How do I whitelist my VPS IP with Zerodha?

Copy the VPS IPv4 address, open your Kite Connect app console and add it to the allowed-IP field, then place one test order after market open. A rejected order usually means the address or the app is wrong.

Does Zerodha's API need a static IP?

Yes. Zerodha's Kite Connect documentation says you must whitelist a static IP address, and order rates must stay within 10 orders per second per client account. That is why a VPS with a fixed address is used.

How much RAM does a Zerodha trading bot need?

Size the server to the bot you already run: a single Python strategy is light, while backtests and multiple data feeds need more. Check the plan's RAM against your process's memory use on your PC before ordering.

Can multiple strategies run on one VPS?

Yes, as separate processes, when the CPU and memory you ordered can carry them. Each strategy still uses your own broker account, API keys and whitelisted IP.

What happens if the VPS restarts during market hours?

The bot stops until the process starts again. Set it to start on boot. Orders the broker has already accepted are not cancelled by the reboot itself.

Is WebJi® an Indian company?
