Razorpay payment gateway for WooCommerce

Quick answer: The Razorpay payment gateway for WooCommerce is the official plugin. Install it, paste the Key ID and Key Secret from the Razorpay dashboard, set the payment action to Authorize and Capture, and place one test order before you use live keys. UPI, cards, netbanking, and wallets then appear at checkout.

What has to be ready before live keys work?

A Razorpay account has to exist before the plugin can take real money. Sign up, fill in the business details, and finish the KYC the dashboard asks for. That review covers identity, business proof, and a bank account in the business name. Live keys stay unavailable until that review is done.

The store also has to be a working WooCommerce shop on HTTPS, with at least one product and a checkout page. The official plugin expects WooCommerce to be active and the server to allow outbound requests through php-curl. If Activate does nothing, ask the host to confirm that extension before you generate keys.

Use test keys while the review is open. A live key pasted too early fails checkout, or it charges a real customer while you are still learning the screen.

How do you install Razorpay and paste the keys?

Install only the official Razorpay for WooCommerce plugin. A payment-link plugin with a similar name is a different product. In WordPress, open Plugins, then Add New, search for Razorpay, install the official plugin, and activate it.

  1. In the Razorpay dashboard open Settings, then API Keys. Generate the test key pair first. Copy the Key ID and the Key Secret. Do not put either value on a public page or in a screenshot.
  2. In WooCommerce open Settings, then Payments. Enable Razorpay and open Manage. If Razorpay is missing from the list, the plugin is not active.
  3. Turn the gateway on. Set the title and the short line customers see at checkout. Paste the test Key ID and the Key Secret.
  4. Set Payment action to Authorize and Capture so a successful payment is captured at once. Choose Authorize only when you will capture each payment by hand in the Razorpay dashboard.
  5. Save the settings. Razorpay should now appear as a payment method when you open checkout in a private window.

Which methods should checkout show?

Keep UPI visible. It is the method most customers in India already use. Cards, netbanking, and wallets can sit beside it. The plugin shows the methods your Razorpay account has switched on. You do not pick each bank inside WooCommerce.

MethodShow it whenYou know it worked
UPICustomers in India. Put it first. The UPI app confirms payment and the order becomes Processing.
CardsThe Razorpay account allows domestic or international cards.A test-mode card payment is captured, not left waiting, when the action is Authorize and Capture.
Netbanking and walletsYou want an extra choice, not a replacement for UPI.Those options appear on the Razorpay screen after the gateway is enabled.
Cash on deliveryOnly pin codes you can deliver.WooCommerce records COD with no Razorpay payment id.

Cash on delivery stays a WooCommerce method, not a Razorpay method. Leave it on only for pin codes you can deliver. Both methods can sit on the same checkout.

For a shop that wants UPI without a full gateway, the separate UPI payments guide covers QR and intent links. That path is not a substitute for Razorpay when you also need cards.

A WordPress membership plugin that bills through WooCommerce still needs a payment gateway. Razorpay can take that payment. This setup does not install the membership plugin. Recurring charges need WooCommerce Subscriptions and the Razorpay subscriptions add-on, which the official listing treats as a separate install.

How do you know the test order worked?

Leave the test keys in place. Add one product you can refund, open checkout in a private window, and pay with the test option Razorpay shows. Do not run a live charge while you are still checking the screen.

  • The WooCommerce order status is Processing, not Pending payment.
  • The same payment id is captured in the Razorpay test dashboard.
  • Stock falls by the quantity on that order, and only once.
  • Refreshing the thank-you page does not create a second order.

All four have to be true before you swap in live keys.

After Razorpay approves the account, generate the live key pair, replace the test keys, and turn test mode off. Place one real order you can refund the same day. It worked when that order is Processing and the live dashboard shows the same payment as captured.

Why does WooCommerce still say the payment failed?

Razorpay can capture the money while WooCommerce stays on Pending or Failed. The store never got the status update. The official plugin supports webhooks. Open Razorpay under WooCommerce payments and copy the webhook address and secret shown on that screen.

In the Razorpay dashboard, add that webhook and include the payment captured event. Resend the event for the stuck payment. It worked when the order note contains the payment id, the status is Processing, and stock has moved once.

If a failed attempt holds the last unit, tell WooCommerce to restock unpaid orders. A customer who closes the UPI app should not empty the shelf. Once a week, match WooCommerce orders to Razorpay payments so a missed update or a refund stands out.

If Activate failed, or checkout cannot reach Razorpay, the server may be blocking outbound requests. Email support@webji.services with the time and the order id. Do not call the office number for this. The average first reply is under 60 minutes, in Hindi or English.

What does Razorpay charge, and when does the money arrive?

The official plugin listing says there is no setup fee and no monthly fee. A charge applies when a payment succeeds. That listing does not print a percentage. The rate on your account, including any tax on the fee, is in the Razorpay dashboard.

Settlement timing is on that Razorpay account, not inside WooCommerce. Do not assume another store's payout day is yours. Match payouts to orders in the dashboard before you decide a week looks short.

Razorpay's fee bill is not the GST invoice your customer downloads. Store invoices are a separate job, covered in the GST invoice guide. WebJi hosting is quoted before 18% GST. This page has no hosting price.

Where should the WooCommerce store run?

The gateway does not host the shop. Checkout needs HTTPS, and the plugin has to reach Razorpay. E-commerce hosting at WebJi® is where a WooCommerce store that takes Indian payments should sit. Email support@webji.services for a quote before you pay.

Moving a store that already sells is not automatic. Free migration is subject to terms and approval. WebJi® is not Razorpay, and we do not run their dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add Razorpay to WooCommerce?

Install the official Razorpay for WooCommerce plugin, paste the test Key ID and Key Secret under WooCommerce, Settings, Payments, and set Payment action to Authorize and Capture. Place one test order before you replace those keys with live keys.

Should I start with test keys or live keys?

Start with test keys. Live keys work only after Razorpay finishes the account review. A test order should show as Processing in WooCommerce and as captured in the test dashboard.

Does Razorpay support UPI on WooCommerce?

Yes. UPI, cards, netbanking, and wallets show when the Razorpay account has them enabled. Keep UPI visible for customers in India. Cash on delivery stays a separate WooCommerce method.

Why is the payment captured in Razorpay but pending in WooCommerce?

The status update did not reach the store. Add the webhook address shown in the plugin settings, include the payment captured event, and resend that event. The order should then move to Processing, with the payment id in the note.

What does Razorpay charge per WooCommerce transaction?

The official plugin listing says there is no setup fee and no monthly fee. A fee applies when a payment succeeds. The percentage is on your Razorpay dashboard, not on this page.

Can a WordPress membership plugin use Razorpay?

Yes, if the membership plugin charges through WooCommerce. Razorpay is the gateway, not the membership plugin. Recurring bills need WooCommerce Subscriptions and Razorpay's subscriptions add-on.

Does WebJi host the store that runs Razorpay?

WebJi can host the WooCommerce store. The Razorpay account, keys, and KYC stay in your Razorpay dashboard. Email support@webji.services for a hosting quote before you pay. Do not call the office line for setup help.
