Private Cloud Hosting

Quick answer: Private cloud hosting is a cloud environment reserved for one organisation: pooled compute, storage and network that only its workloads use, run in its own data centre or a provider's. Virtualisation and orchestration make it self-service and elastic. It is not a single VPS, which shares a hypervisor with other customers.

Private cloud hosting is a cloud reserved for one organisation

Private cloud hosting is a pool of compute, storage and network, managed through an API or panel, that only one organisation uses. It runs either in that organisation's own data centre or in a provider's, and it is still a cloud because resources are pooled, self-service and elastic — not because of where the hardware sits.

  • Single tenant — no other customer's virtual machines run on the same pool.
  • Pooled — CPU, RAM, disk and network are allocated from a shared reserve on demand.
  • Self-service — you create a server through a panel or API without raising a ticket.
  • Measured — usage is metered, so capacity can be added or returned.

A dedicated server gives isolation without pooling or self-service. A public cloud gives pooling without isolation. Private cloud is the combination, and that combination is what you pay for.

How the mechanism works: hypervisor, pool and private network

The bottom layer is physical hosts. A hypervisor on each host slices it into virtual machines, and an orchestration layer decides which host gets the next one. Storage is presented as a pool, usually replicated across two or more hosts so a disk failure does not take a machine down.

The tenant sits above that with its own network segment, a private VLAN or VPC, its own firewall rules and its own address space. Traffic between its machines stays inside that segment. That segmentation, not a marketing word, is what keeps another customer from reaching your database.

Control comes from the API. Creating a machine, attaching storage or taking a snapshot is a call the orchestration layer executes, which is why a private cloud can be automated where a rented server cannot.

For one website, a VPS is the same isolation at a fraction of the price. Private cloud earns its cost when several workloads share the pool and a compliance rule or a noisy-neighbour incident makes shared hardware unacceptable.

What a small private environment costs

WebJi® cloud plans start at ₹5,900 per month before 18% GST for 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB storage. That plan is a virtual private server on a dedicated resource allocation, not a private-cloud control plane with orchestration you drive by API.

A true private environment — dedicated hosts, your own orchestration layer, a private network and a named engineer — is quoted by email before payment, because the price depends on the number of hosts, storage replication and the support level. Email support@webji.services with the workload count and the compliance requirement to get that quote in writing.

When private cloud hosting is the wrong choice

One website with steady traffic does not need it. A VPS gives the isolation, the panel and a known monthly price, and the extra platform fee buys nothing the site can use.

It is also wrong when nobody on the team will run it. A private cloud you do not automate is a set of servers with extra steps and a larger bill. And it is wrong when the real need is burst capacity for a launch week: that is public cloud elasticity, and paying for it all year is waste.

Compliance needs a contract, not a brochure

Data residency is a contractual statement about where storage and backups sit, not a phrase on a features page. Under India's DPDP Act, the organisation holding personal data remains responsible for it, and a provider's location claim only helps if it appears in the agreement with a named data centre.

Ask three questions in writing: which cities hold the primary copy and the backups, who can access the hypervisor, and what the provider does when it receives a lawful request for data. The answers belong in the contract. WebJi's data centre locations are listed on data centre locations; for a private build, size the pool against cloud hosting first and write to the contact page with the compliance clause you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is private cloud hosting in one sentence?

It is a pooled, self-service, elastic set of compute, storage and network that only one organisation uses, hosted in its own data centre or a provider's. Single tenancy is the defining feature, not the location of the hardware.

Is a VPS the same as a private cloud?

No. A VPS is one virtual machine on a hypervisor shared with other customers. A private cloud is a pool of machines with its own network and orchestration, used by one organisation. For a single site the VPS is usually the better buy.

Do I need private cloud for DPDP compliance?

Not automatically. DPDP makes you responsible for personal data wherever it sits. What you need is a written statement of where primary and backup data are stored, who can access the host, and how lawful requests are handled.

How much does private cloud hosting cost in India?

A WebJi® cloud server starts at ₹5,900 per month before 18% GST for 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB storage. A full private environment with dedicated hosts and orchestration is quoted by email before payment.

Can I move from a VPS to a private cloud later?

Yes. Take a snapshot of the VPS, rebuild the same image inside the private pool, and switch DNS after testing. The application does not change; the network rules and storage layout usually do.

Who manages the private cloud?

Either the provider or your own team. On provider hardware the split is written in the contract: the provider runs the hypervisor, storage and network, and you run the operating systems and applications inside your segment.
