What a domain name is
A domain name is the label in the browser bar, such as yourbrand.com or yourbrand.in. It points at a site. It is not the site. A registrar records that name for a year, and you renew it or someone else can register it. Check the spelling on domain registration before you print it on a card.
What web hosting is
Web hosting is space on a server that stays switched on. The server holds your pages, images, and database, and sends them when a browser asks. A new brochure site usually starts on shared hosting, where several sites share one machine. A busier site can move to a VPS or a dedicated server later. That move is a different decision from picking the name.
How a domain and hosting differ
The domain tells people where the site is. Hosting is where the files live. One is a yearly name. The other is a server you rent by the month or by the year.
- A domain is the name people use to find the site.
- Hosting is the server that stores the files.
- The name is renewed yearly. The server is rented by the month or the year.
| Factor | Domain | Hosting |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A name, such as yourbrand.com | Space on a server |
| What it does | Sends visitors to an address | Stores and sends the files |
| Who sells it | A domain registrar | A hosting company |
| How you pay | Yearly, per name | Monthly or yearly, per plan |
| On its own | A parked or forwarded name | An IP address, with no memorable name |
You can hold the name and still have an empty site. You can also have files on a server that nobody can find by name. The two have to be connected before the site opens.
Do you need both?
Yes, if the site should open when someone types the name. A domain with no host shows a parking page or an error. Hosting with no domain is a raw IP address, which visitors will not remember. Forwarding a name to a social profile is not a website. You order the server from the WebJi homepage once you know the name, or you add it in the same checkout.
Can you buy them apart?
Yes. Register the name as soon as you like it, then add hosting when the pages are ready. One provider means one login, and WebJi® connects the name after the order is approved. Two providers mean you can change the host later and keep the name. If the name is already registered elsewhere, you do not have to move it to use hosting here.
How the name reaches the server
The browser does not store your files. It asks the domain system which server to open.
- The visitor types the domain.
- DNS reads the nameservers saved at the registrar.
- Those nameservers answer with the hosting server's address.
- The server returns your files. It worked when your pages show, not a parking page.
Nameservers are the link you set. When both products are at WebJi®, that link is set after the order is approved. When the name sits at another registrar, you paste the WebJi® nameserver hostnames there. A change in the wrong control panel does nothing.
What does WebJi hosting cost?
Shared Linux hosting, read on 29 October 2026, is ₹300, ₹400, or ₹700 a month before 18% GST. The plans are L-Basic, L-Unlimited, and L-Developer. The one-year bills are ₹3,000, ₹4,000, and ₹7,000, and that yearly bill is not twelve times the month.
A domain is a separate yearly charge. A size that is not on the shared list is quoted by email at support@webji.services before you pay.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a domain and hosting?
A domain is the name people type. Hosting is the server space that stores the site. The name finds the server. The server sends the files.
Do I need both a domain and hosting?
Yes, if you want a site that opens by name. A domain alone has no files to show. Hosting alone is only an IP address.
Can I buy a domain and hosting from different companies?
Yes. Register the name at one company and point its nameservers at the host. Buying both from WebJi® puts them on one invoice after the order is approved.
Which should I get first, the domain or the hosting?
Get the domain first if the name matters, so nobody else registers it. Get hosting when you are ready to put files online. Either order works.
What is a domain registrar?
A registrar is the company that records the domain name for you. A hosting company rents the server. One firm can be both, but the two jobs stay separate.
Can I keep my domain if I change hosts?
Yes. The domain stays at the registrar. You change the nameservers so the name points at the new host. The site files move separately. Free migration to WebJi® is subject to terms and approval.
