cPanel to cPanel Migration

Quick answer: A cPanel to cPanel migration copies the whole account: files, databases, mailboxes, and the DNS zone. Build that copy while the old host still answers. Open it by IP or a hosts-file preview, then switch nameservers. Keep the old account until the site and mail both work on the new host.

What does a cPanel to cPanel migration copy?

A cPanel to cPanel migration moves one full account from the old server to a new cPanel server. The copy includes site files, MySQL databases, mailboxes, cron jobs, and the DNS zone. It is not a zip of the public folder, and it is not a domain transfer.

  • Site files, including the home directory and public_html.
  • MySQL databases and the database users that belong to the account.
  • Mailboxes, messages, forwarders, and filters.
  • Cron jobs, the DNS zone, and SSL certificates when the backup includes them.

A files-only download leaves the inbox and the databases behind. If the new host gives the account a new username, database names change prefix and the site config must be edited before the pages will load.

Which path fits a shared hosting upgrade?

Pick the path from the access you actually have. A shared-plan customer usually has cPanel, not root. Root is what a WHM transfer needs.

PathWho can run itWhat you hand over
Full account backup and restoreThe account owner, or the new hostOne full-account archive
WHM transfer from the old cPanelSomeone with WHM on the new serverOld server IP, cPanel username, and password
Destination host does the moveThe new host, after they accept the jobThe archive, or the old cPanel login

For an upgrade onto shared hosting, order the new plan first so the destination cPanel exists and the disk can hold the account. WebJi® will move an approved account at no extra charge. That is not automatic, and it is not instant. Email support@webji.services with the backup or the old login, and leave the old host online.

WebJi® is not cPanel. We do not sell their license, and we do not run their migrations desk. On our cPanel hosting the panel is the account you log into after the copy.

How do you restore a full account backup?

Stop when the new server shows the home page, a login, and one mailbox. Until then, do not change DNS and do not cancel the old plan.

  1. In the old cPanel open Files, then Backup, and create a full cPanel backup. A home-directory download is not this file.
  2. Confirm the new plan has free disk for the archive and the unpacked account. Upload the archive only if the new host asks for it.
  3. Ask the new host to restore it, or use Backup in the new cPanel when that account is allowed to restore. Many shared plans hide that button.
  4. Browse the new copy by its temporary URL, or add the new IP to your computer's hosts file for the domain. Do not use the public site as the test, because DNS still points at the old server.
  5. If the username changed, edit the database name, user, and password in the site config, then reload. A blank page after a clean restore is usually that mismatch.
  6. Match the PHP version to the old account before you judge a plugin error as a broken copy.

When does the new host use WHM?

Use WHM only when the destination server is yours or the host agrees to pull the account. In WHM open Transfers, then the tool that copies a remote cPanel account. Enter the old server IP, the cPanel username, and the password. The old server has to accept that connection for the session.

If a reseller owns the account, put that reseller on the new server before the customer accounts. Otherwise the account can land with the wrong owner. After the copy, open List Accounts and confirm the package is the plan you bought.

Do not follow a guide that tells you to install cPanel on a new machine and then give that machine the old server's main IP. That is a whole-server replacement. A shared hosting upgrade keeps the new host's IP and you change DNS instead.

How do you check email before DNS moves?

Mail is easy to lose because it is not in public_html. A full account backup and a WHM transfer both include the mail directory. A file-manager zip does not.

After the restore, open webmail on the new server and read one old message. The world still delivers new mail to the old server until MX changes, so do not turn the old mailbox off.

Forwarders and filters come across with the account. Open each one. Reset a mailbox password if the new host requires it, and keep the old server so late messages are not bounced.

How do you switch DNS after the copy works?

Lower the TTL on the old DNS records a day before the move. That shortens how long caches keep the old IP. It does not move the site by itself.

When the hosts-file test passes, change nameservers at the registrar to the new host's pair. Switch the website records and the MX records in the same change. On a WebJi® account the pair is often ns1.webji.in and ns2.webji.in. Read the hostnames on your welcome email before you type them.

Some networks update within a few hours. Others keep the old answer for up to 48 hours. Leave the old cPanel online through that window. A nameserver change is not a domain transfer, so the registrar stays where it is.

What do you test before you cancel the old host?

Cancel only after the public site and public mail both use the new server. Until a lookup shows the new nameservers, the old account is still in production.

  • Home page, one inner page, and a form or a test order.
  • Send and receive from an outside mailbox. Webmail on the server alone is not the test.
  • Cron jobs, SSL on the new host, and one logged-in admin page.
  • Error logs on the second day for visitors still hitting the old IP.

If a page fails, fix it on the new account or put DNS back. Do not delete the old account to finish a move that is still split across two servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I migrate from cPanel to cPanel?

Create a full account backup on the old cPanel and restore it on the new server. Test by the new IP or a hosts file. Change nameservers only after the site and one mailbox work, and keep the old host online until public DNS has moved.

Can I move cPanel without root access?

Yes. A full account backup does not need root. The new host restores the archive, or the new cPanel restores it when that control is available. WHM is only for someone who administers the destination server.

Will email accounts move with the account?

They move with a full account backup or a WHM account transfer. They do not move with a public_html zip. Read one old message in the new server's webmail before you change MX records.

How long should I keep the old host?

Until the site and mail both answer on the new server, including the DNS overlap afterward, which can last up to 48 hours. Cancelling the old account first is how mail goes missing.

Do I need to transfer the domain too?

No. Change nameservers to the new host and leave the domain at the current registrar. Transfer the domain only when you also want a new registrar account.

Can WebJi move the account on a shared upgrade?

Email support@webji.services with a full backup or the old cPanel login. A move onto an approved WebJi® shared plan is free and subject to terms. It is not an automatic button, and the old host stays up until you have checked the copy.
