Co Domain Registration — What You Get
.co belongs to Colombia, and its policy is set by the country's Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, MinTIC. Since 3 October 2025 the registry contract sits with CentralNic Ltd, part of Team Internet Group, which runs the day-to-day registry and accredits registrars worldwide.
The country link is administrative, not operational: since 2010 any person or organisation in any country can register a .co name, and the extension is sold as a short global alternative to .com. That is why you see .co on startups far from Bogotá.
Who Can Register a .co Domain Name
Anyone can register a .co name: a company, startup, freelancer or club, in any country, with no Colombian address and no documents. The registrant contact details must be accurate, because they reach the registry and appear in WHOIS unless privacy is applied.
- Open registration: no local presence, no trade licence, no company registration in Colombia.
- Restricted second levels: .gov.co, .edu.co and .mil.co are not sold through normal registrars and must be processed through Colombia's local registrar.
- Label rules: 2 to 63 characters, letters, digits and hyphens, with no hyphen at either end.
- One holder per name: the first completed order wins, and premium names carry a registry-set price.
What a .co Domain Is Used For
A .co name suits companies, startups, products and communities, because the two letters read as "company" or "community" in English and as the country code in Spanish. Short names that are taken or priced high under .com are often still available under .co.
It also works for a Colombian or Latin American audience without looking foreign, since the extension is the country's own. For an Indian business, the practical use is a short brand name that survives being typed from memory.
Co Domain Registration Plans & Pricing (INR)
WebJi quotes each .co registration and renewal in INR before you pay, and 18% GST is added on the invoice. No fixed .co figure is printed here because premium names are priced by the registry; the bands below are dated and cover the extensions we sell alongside .co.
| TLD | Indicative registration (₹/yr) | Indicative renewal (₹/yr) | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .co | Quoted at checkout | Quoted before renewal | Short company or community names | Get .co Quote |

| .co.in | ₹500–900 | ₹800–1,100 | Indian corporate second level | Get Custom Quote |
Indicative market bands for planning, read on 30 October 2026 — the exact .co price is confirmed at checkout or by email before payment.
.co Renewal, Transfer and Expiry Rules
A .co term runs 1 to 5 years, and renewal uses the same 1 to 5 year blocks. Renewal is charged at the rate for your name at that time, and auto-renew set before the expiry date is the safe default.
To transfer, unlock the name and take its authorisation code from the current registrar, then approve the email sent to the registrant address. A completed domain transfer adds one year, and a new registration or transfer is usually locked for 60 days.
After expiry a .co name passes through a renewal grace period, then a redemption window where the registrar charges a recovery fee, then release to the open market. A dropped name is not held for the previous owner.
.co vs .com and .in for an Indian Business
Use .co for a short global name when .com is taken, .com when the name is free and neutrality matters, and .in or .co.in when Indian identity is the point. Google treats .co as a generic extension, so the name does not geo-lock the site to Colombia.
- .co — Colombia's ccTLD sold worldwide, 1 to 5 year terms, best for short brand names; price quoted at checkout.
- .com — the strongest neutral default, ₹900–1,200/year indicative.
- .co.in — NIXI's Indian corporate second level, not to be confused with .co; ₹500–900/year indicative.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is .co a Colombian domain or a global one?
It is Colombia's country-code domain, but it has been open to registrants worldwide since 2010 and is marketed as a global extension. A .co site does not need any Colombian address, company or paperwork.
Can anyone in India register a .co domain?
Yes. Individuals and companies in India can register .co names with no local presence and no documents. Only the registrant contact data must be accurate, because it goes to the registry and into WHOIS.
How long can I register a .co domain for?
From 1 to 5 years per order, and renewal uses the same 1 to 5 year blocks. Set auto-renew before expiry, because the site stops resolving on the expiry date.
How much does a .co domain cost at WebJi®?
The .co price is quoted in INR at checkout before you pay, with 18% GST added on the invoice. Premium names are priced higher by the registry, and renewal is quoted again at the rate for your name.
What is the difference between .co and .co.in?
.co is Colombia's country-code domain, sold worldwide. .co.in is India's corporate second level under NIXI. They are separate registries with separate rules, and a .co name gives no claim on the matching .co.in.
How do I transfer a .co domain to WebJi®?
Unlock the name at your current registrar, take its authorisation code, start the transfer and approve the email sent to the registrant address. A completed transfer adds one year to the term.
Does .co support WHOIS privacy and DNSSEC?
.co supports DNSSEC, and WHOIS privacy can be applied through the registrar where its policy allows it. We confirm what is included on your order before you pay.
