What WordPress itself costs, and what it does not cover
The software is free. WordPress is released under the GPL, WooCommerce is free, and thousands of themes and plugins cost nothing. Free Let's Encrypt SSL is included with WebJi® hosting. None of that makes a website free, because the software is only one line of the bill.
- Domain: an annual registration you rent, never buy outright.
- Hosting: the server, the PHP version, the database and the SSL.
- Extensions: a premium theme, and any plugin whose free version stops short.
- Labour: design, build, content and migration.
- Upkeep: updates, backups, and someone to call when a plugin breaks the site.
So the total is a recurring platform cost plus a one-time build cost. Quotes that show only one of those two numbers are not comparable, and the recurring one is the one you pay for as long as the site exists.
The WebJi® bill, line by line
These are the published prices for the parts WebJi® sells. Every figure is in INR and before 18% GST, read from the price list on 30 October 2026. The domain is not in that list, so it is quoted by email before payment.
| Line | Price | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| L-Basic shared hosting | ₹300 | per month, or ₹3,000 a year |
| L-Unlimited shared hosting | ₹400 | per month, or ₹4,000 a year |
| L-Developer shared hosting | ₹700 | per month, or ₹7,000 a year |
| WordPress Unlimited | ₹400 | per month, ₹3,000 a year, ₹8,100 for three |
| WordPress Unlimited+ | ₹500 | per month, ₹4,200 a year, ₹11,340 for three |
| Cloud Entry (2 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB) | ₹5,900 | per month |
| Business email, 5 mailboxes × 5 GB | ₹2,520 | per year |
| WP updates and security, done for you | ₹5,900 | per year |
| Sectigo Positive SSL | ₹1,800 | per year, optional |
| Backup.Help with 200 GB | ₹1,300 | per month |
| Migration, one domain | ₹700 | one time |
Published WebJi® prices, read 30 October 2026, before 18% GST. The Sectigo certificate is optional because Let's Encrypt is included with hosting. The domain and the design work are quoted separately.
Which hosting line you need is decided by traffic and plugins, not by page count. A brochure site with a contact form runs on L-Basic. A WooCommerce store with 300 products belongs on WordPress hosting at the least, and probably on cloud once the database grows.
What design and development cost in India
WebJi® does not publish a build price. Design and development are scoped first and quoted by email before work starts, because a five-page site and a 40-page store with a payment gateway are different jobs.
Other companies do publish figures. These were read on 30 October 2026 and are theirs, not ours:
| Source and scope | Published price |
|---|---|
| GoDaddy India, CMS website | INR 25,000 to 2,00,000 |
| GoDaddy India, basic site up to 10 pages | INR 40,000 to 1,00,000 |
| GoDaddy India, independent designer | INR 1,000 to 3,000 per hour |
| GoDaddy India, agency charges | INR 5,000 to 20,000 or more |
| Zauca, WordPress package | Rs 3,800, renewal Rs 2,000 a year |
| Zauca, business plans | Rs 5,800 to Rs 9,300 |
| WordPress.com, managed plans | US$9 to US$70 per month |
Sources read 30 October 2026: godaddy.com/resources/in/skills/cost-to-build-a-website-in-india, zauca.com WordPress design cost page, wordpress.com/pricing. Their terms, not WebJi® prices.
Read the scope, not the headline. WordPress.com is a hosted platform where you rent the site; self-hosted WordPress is the software in this article. A Rs 3,800 package and a INR 2,00,000 agency build are not the same product, and the gap between them is mostly labour and content.
What year two costs
Year two is the honest number. Take a business site on WordPress Unlimited+ with business email and the done-for-you update service: ₹4,200 plus ₹2,520 plus ₹5,900 is ₹12,620 before 18% GST, every year.
Drop the update service and the same site costs ₹6,720 a year, but you own the patching. Add a premium plugin licence and a premium theme renewal, and the figure climbs again. Those licences renew annually whether or not you touched the site.
- Hosting renewal: the plan price, not the first-year promotion.
- Domain renewal: quoted before payment, and it is annual.
- Plugin and theme licences: annual, per site, sometimes per domain.
- Maintenance: ₹5,900 a year at WebJi®, or your own time.
Why a ₹3,800 website is not ₹3,800
The cheapest advertised package on this SERP is Rs 3,800 one-time, and its own page states a Rs 2,000 annual renewal plus 18% GST. Over three years that is about Rs 9,800, not Rs 3,800. Nothing dishonest is happening; the renewal is printed, and buyers skip it.
Ask three questions before you accept any low build price. Who owns the domain, in whose name is it registered, and can you take the files with you. If the answer to any of those is "the agency", you are renting a website rather than buying one.
A build priced below the hosting it includes is a subscription in disguise. That can be a fair deal for a five-page site you will replace in two years. It is a bad deal for a store you intend to keep.
Three budgets that hold for three years
Here is the platform side of three common builds, costed only from the published WebJi® prices above. Labour is quoted separately in every case.
| Build | Each year, before GST | Three years |
|---|---|---|
| Personal blog on L-Basic | ₹3,000 | ₹9,000 |
| Business site on WordPress Unlimited+ and email | ₹6,720 | ₹20,160 |
| Store on Cloud Entry | ₹70,800 | ₹2,12,400 |
The spread is wide because the products are different. A blog needs a domain and a server. A store needs a server that survives a sale, a payment gateway, and someone watching it. Most overspending happens when a brochure site buys cloud, and most underspending happens when a store starts on shared.
Where to spend and where to save
Spend on the parts that are expensive to change later: hosting headroom, backups, and one theme you will keep. Save on everything you can swap in an afternoon.
- Buy a backup plan before you need it. ₹1,300 a month is cheaper than one bad restore.
- Keep the free Let's Encrypt certificate; buy Sectigo only when a client demands a branded certificate.
- Skip page-builder add-on bundles until a page actually needs one.
- Delete plugins you are not using. They are unpatched code with a login.
- Pay for content once, well. It outlasts three redesigns.
The build itself is where a specialist earns the money. WordPress web design at WebJi® is scoped and quoted before work starts, and the hosting and business email lines above are the recurring part of the same quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a WordPress website cost in India?
Platform costs at WebJi® run ₹3,000 to ₹4,200 a year for WordPress hosting and ₹2,520 a year for five business mailboxes, before 18% GST. Design and development are quoted by email after scope, and the domain is quoted the same way. Year two repeats the platform cost.
Is WordPress free?
The software is free under the GPL, including WooCommerce, and free Let's Encrypt SSL comes with WebJi® hosting. What you pay for is the domain, the server, any premium theme or plugin, and the labour to build and maintain the site.
How much does WordPress hosting cost per year at WebJi®?
WordPress Unlimited is ₹3,000 a year and WordPress Unlimited+ is ₹4,200 a year, before 18% GST, with three-year terms at ₹8,100 and ₹11,340. Shared hosting starts lower at ₹3,000 a year on L-Basic. Cloud servers start at ₹5,900 a month for a store that needs the headroom.
What does a WordPress developer charge in India?
WebJi® quotes after scope rather than publishing a rate. For reference, GoDaddy India published INR 40,000 to 1,00,000 for a basic site up to 10 pages and INR 1,000 to 3,000 per hour for an independent designer, both read on 30 October 2026. Those are their figures, not ours.
What will my second year cost?
Year two is hosting renewal plus domain renewal plus any plugin or theme licence plus maintenance. A WebJi® business site on WordPress Unlimited+ with email and the update service is ₹12,620 a year before 18% GST; without the update service it is ₹6,720.
Do I need premium plugins?
Only when a free plugin stops short of a job you actually have. A forms plugin, an SEO plugin and a cache plugin all have free versions that run a small site. Never install a nulled premium plugin: it is unpatched code from an unknown source, and it is the most common way a WordPress site gets infected.
