WordPress vs Wix

Quick answer: WordPress here means the software you host yourself, so the files and database stay yours. Wix includes the editor and the hosting, and the design does not export as a working site. Choose WordPress when the site will grow. Choose Wix only for a short brochure you will not move.

What is the difference between WordPress and Wix?

WordPress in this comparison is the free software you install on a host you choose. That product is WordPress.org, not the hosted WordPress.com service. How those two differ is on WordPress.com vs WordPress.org.

Wix is a closed builder. The editor, the templates, and the hosting are one subscription. You design inside that account, and you do not get a working copy of the design to take elsewhere.

  • WordPress is software plus a host you pick
  • Wix is the editor and the hosting in one account
  • The screens can feel similar. The owner of the files does not

Who should choose WordPress, and who should stay on Wix?

Choose WordPress when the site needs plugins, a shop, or a host you can leave later. The block editor publishes pages without custom code. You write code only when the theme cannot make the change.

Choose Wix for a short brochure when you want the drag-and-drop editor and you will not move the site.

Wix and WordPress can both publish those few pages. They stop being the same choice once the work has to leave the account it was built in.

What does each option cost?

The WordPress download costs nothing. You still pay for a domain and for hosting.

WordPress hosting on WebJi® is ₹400 a month for WordPress Unlimited and ₹500 a month for WordPress Unlimited+, before 18% GST. The one-year totals on that card are ₹3,000 and ₹4,200. Those figures are hosting only.

A comparison fetched for India on 29 October 2026 listed Wix at ₹125, ₹185, ₹399, and ₹1,599 a month. It also listed a free plan that shows a Wix advertisement and does not use your own domain.

WebJi® does not sell Wix, so those prices are not our invoice. Our figure is hosting for software you install. Their figure is the builder and the hosting together.

A lower sticker is not a lower total. WebJi® does not claim to cost less.

How do themes and plugins differ?

On WordPress, themes and plugins are separate installs. Many cost nothing. A paid theme or plugin is billed by that vendor, not on the WebJi® hosting invoice. You can change the theme and keep the posts.

On Wix, templates and apps stay inside the Wix account. Extra apps are often a second subscription. You cannot place that template on another host and keep the layout.

Which is easier to rank?

Neither platform ranks a thin page for you. On WordPress you edit the title, the description, and the address, usually with an SEO plugin, and you choose the host. On Wix those fields sit inside the builder.

Search results follow the page, the links, and how fast the server answers. They do not follow the name of the editor.

Which one fits an online store?

A shop on WordPress adds WooCommerce to hosting you control. Products, tax, and the payment gateway are settings you turn on. The plan shape is on WooCommerce hosting.

Wix keeps the product list and the checkout inside a commerce plan. The same India comparison listed a Core plan at ₹399 a month and marked it for online stores. WebJi® is not Wix.

Can you move a Wix site to WordPress?

A Wix site does not leave as a working site. You can copy the words and the pictures. The layout, the apps, and the shop structure stay behind. Plan a rebuild, not an export button.

  1. Leave the Wix site online. Do not cancel it before the new pages are checked.
  2. Order WordPress hosting and install WordPress. This step is done when /wp-admin shows a login form.
  3. Create the pages in WordPress and paste the text. Upload the images you saved from Wix.
  4. Open the home page and one inner page on the new host. If both show the right words and pictures, the copy worked.
  5. Point the domain only after that check.

For a copy that is quoted before you pay, use the website migration service.

Email support@webji.services if you want the scope checked first. Free migration is subject to terms and approval, and it is not instant. WebJi® is not Wix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is WordPress better than Wix?

WordPress is the better fit when you need plugins, a shop, or the right to change hosts. Wix fits a short brochure you will not move. The Wix design does not export as a working site.

Which costs less, WordPress or Wix?

They are different bills. WebJi® WordPress hosting is ₹400 or ₹500 a month before 18% GST. A page fetched for India on 29 October 2026 listed Wix plans at ₹125, ₹185, ₹399, and ₹1,599 a month. That Wix price includes the builder. Ours is hosting only, and WebJi® does not claim to cost less.

Can I move a Wix site to WordPress?

You can copy the text and the images onto a new WordPress site. The Wix layout does not come with them. Keep the Wix site online until the new home page and one inner page look right, then change DNS. A WebJi® copy is free only when approved, and it is not instant.

Do I need to code to use WordPress?

No. The block editor publishes pages without custom code. You write code only when a theme or plugin cannot make the change. Updates and backups are still yours, unless the host does that work.

Which is better for an online store?

Use WordPress with WooCommerce when the shop files should sit on a host you can leave. Use a Wix commerce plan when the product list and checkout should stay inside Wix. WebJi® hosts WordPress. It does not sell Wix.

Is Wix good enough for SEO?

Wix can set a title and a description inside the builder. WordPress does the same, usually with a plugin, and you also choose the host. Neither one ranks a thin page by itself.
