WordPress Site Not Showing Up

Quick answer: A WordPress site not showing up is usually DNS, a suspended account, files in the wrong folder, a maintenance file, or a cache. Work the layers in that order before you reinstall. A published page can also be missing from the menu, which looks like the site is gone when only one link is.

Why a WordPress site is not showing up

The browser asks DNS where the domain points, the host has to serve the files, WordPress has to boot, and a cache may still be showing an old copy. Find which of those failed before you reinstall.

  1. Does the domain resolve to the host IP you were given?
  2. Is the hosting account active, and are the files in the folder that account uses?
  3. Does https:// load with a valid certificate, or does only http:// open?
  4. Does WordPress boot, or do you see a white screen, a maintenance file, or a host placeholder page?
  5. Is the page published and in the menu, or only missing as a link?
  6. Have you bypassed the browser cache and any cache plugin?

Domain and DNS

At the registrar, the nameservers must be the ones your host told you to use. Then edit records only in the DNS host those nameservers point at. Changing the other panel does nothing.

The website uses an A record, or a CNAME, to the host. Mail uses MX and can stay on a different provider. If the site is new, wait out the old TTL. That is often under a few hours and sometimes longer. It is not a reason to delete the WordPress files.

Hosting account and the document root

A suspended account, an unpaid invoice or a domain added on the wrong hosting package shows a host error or a blank account, not your theme. Log in to the account and read the notice before you change WordPress.

Files for the main domain belong in that domain's document root, often public_html. An addon domain uses its own folder. Uploading the site into a random directory leaves the host placeholder in the root. The line "future home of something quite cool" is that empty-account page, not a WordPress theme.

An expired or missing certificate is the other account-level fault: https:// shows a browser warning while http:// still opens, so the site looks gone to anyone typing the bare domain. Renew the certificate in the hosting panel, then reload over https before you touch WordPress.

WordPress itself: white screen, maintenance, permalinks

  • A file named .maintenance in the WordPress folder means an update was interrupted. Remove it if no update is running, then reload.
  • A white screen is often one plugin or the theme. Rename the plugins folder via the file manager and reload. If the site returns, rename it back and disable plugins one at a time.
  • Settings, then Reading, has a box that asks search engines not to index the site. That does not hide the site from you, but it keeps Google from listing it.
  • Permalinks: open Settings, then Permalinks, and save once if pages 404 after a move.

Read the log if the screen stays white. The error log location shows where PHP writes it on this kind of host.

A page that is published but missing

A published page that is not in Appearance, then Menus, will not show in the navigation. The page still has its own URL. Add it to the menu, or set it as the homepage under Settings, then Reading, if it should be the front.

A page left as draft or private is invisible to visitors. Scheduled posts wait for their time. If you can see changes while logged in and nobody else can, you are looking past a cache that visitors still have.

Cache, and what to send support

Clear the browser, then the cache plugin, then any CDN. A host cache can sit in front of all three. Reload in a private window after each clear so you know which layer was stale.

Email support@webji.services with the domain, the time you last changed DNS, a screenshot of the error, and whether wp-admin opens. Phone +91 141 4941811 is business hours only. Do not send passwords in the first email. WordPress hosting support can see the account status from the domain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my WordPress site not showing up?

Check DNS, then whether the hosting account is active and the files are in the document root, then WordPress itself, then cache. A page can also be published and simply missing from the menu.

Why is my WordPress site loading a blank white page?

A plugin or theme is the usual cause. Rename the plugins folder in the file manager and reload. If the site returns, turn plugins back on one at a time. Read the PHP error log if it stays blank.

Why does my new site say 'future home of something quite cool'?

That is the placeholder an empty hosting account shows when the domain points at the host and WordPress is not in the document root yet. Upload the site into the right folder or finish the install.

Why can others see my site but I can't?

Your browser or a local hosts file is often holding an old address or an old page. Try another network or a private window. If you are logged in and they are not, compare a cache plugin that treats logged-in users differently.

How long does it take for a new site to appear after DNS?

Often under a few hours, and sometimes as long as the previous record's TTL. Check that the nameservers and the A record match the host before you wait longer than that.

Why does my site show an old version after updates?

A cache is serving the previous HTML. Clear the plugin cache, the host cache and the browser, in a private window, one layer at a time.
