School website cost in India by tier
The band is set by what a parent can do on the site. Read pages, fill a form, or pay a fee: each step is a different build with different testing.
| Tier | What it includes | Market band |
|---|---|---|
| Brochure | Home, about, academics, admissions, faculty, gallery, contact with map. About eight pages | ₹15,000–₹40,000 |
| Admissions | Adds an enquiry and admission form, document upload, email alerts to the office | ₹40,000–₹80,000 |
| Fees and records | Adds online fee payment, receipts, parent login, ERP or SMS integration | Quoted per integration, above the second tier |
Those bands are the Indian market range for 2026 and match what vendors list publicly. A large CBSE school with a parent portal is priced like software, not like a website. WebJi® quotes a school build by email before payment, in INR with 18% GST shown separately.
What changes the price
Two schools with the same page count can be quoted ₹18,000 and ₹70,000. These are the lines that explain the difference.
- Pages per section. One page of academics is cheap. A page per class, per stream and per activity is content work, and someone has to write it.
- Bilingual content. Hindi and English versions double the copy and the review, and the school has to sign off both.
- Forms. An enquiry form is a field list. An admission form with document upload, size limits and email routing is a workflow with edge cases.
- Payments. A gateway needs a KYC-approved merchant account, a test mode, receipts and a reconciliation report for the accounts office.
- ERP or SMS. Every integration depends on the other vendor's API and their cooperation, so it is quoted per system, not per page.
- Photography and video. Usually outside the build. One shoot of the campus, the labs and two classrooms is enough.
Admission forms and the consent rule
An admission form collects a child's name, date of birth, photograph and often an Aadhaar-linked detail. Under the DPDP Act 2023, processing a child's personal data needs verifiable parental consent, and behaviour tracking or targeted advertising aimed at children is barred.
In practice the form needs a consent checkbox that is not pre-ticked, a record of who gave consent and when, and a stated retention period. Build that before the form goes live, not after a parent complains. It is a small addition to the form's cost and a large addition to the school's exposure if it is missing.
Fee payment online: gateway and reconciliation
The gateway is the cheapest part of taking fees online and the part schools underestimate. Expect roughly two percent per transaction plus GST on the fee, charged by the gateway, not by the website vendor.
- A merchant account with KYC, which takes longer than the build if the trust or society documents are not in order.
- A receipt that matches the school's format and carries the student ID, so the accounts office can reconcile.
- A settlement report downloaded daily, plus a refund path for a double payment.
- An offline fallback, because a queue at the counter on the last date is normal.
ERP and SMS integrations
Most schools already run an ERP for attendance, results and fees, and the website only needs to link to it or pull a login. That link is a fixed piece of work if the ERP has an API documented for third parties, and an open-ended one if it does not.
Ask the ERP vendor two questions before you ask for a website quote: is there an API, and is there a sandbox to test against. Without both, budget for a manual process — a CSV export and a page that lists results — rather than a live sync.
Hindi and English content
A bilingual school site needs both languages written, not machine-translated. Translation of eight pages runs to a modest fixed fee; the review by the principal or the academic head is the slow part, because every subject name and every circular has an agreed Hindi wording.
Structure it as two language versions of the same pages, with a visible switcher, rather than one page with mixed paragraphs. Search engines treat the two versions as separate pages, which is exactly what you want for a parent searching in Hindi.
Yearly cost after launch
| Line | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Hosting | ₹300 a month on WebJi® L-Basic, ₹400 on L-Unlimited, before 18% GST |
| Domain renewal | Charged at the registrar's rate each year |
| SSL | Included on the hosting plan |
| Content updates | Either a staff member with a login, or an annual maintenance quote by email |
| Payment gateway | Per transaction, roughly two percent plus GST |
Budget the renewal in the same approval as the build. A school site that goes quiet in year two — stale circulars, last year's admission dates — costs more in parent trust than the renewal would have.
Affiliation details the site must show
Keep the affiliation or recognition number, the trust or society name, the mandatory public disclosure document and the grievance contact on the site, and date them. Parents and inspectors both look for them, and a stale disclosure page is the first thing noticed.
Put them on one page linked from the footer, update it when the affiliation is renewed, and keep the PDF under 2 MB so it opens on a phone.
How WebJi® quotes a school website
Email support@webji.services with the tier you want, the number of sections and whether fees will be collected online. The website design team replies with a fixed scope and price in INR, with 18% GST shown separately, before you pay anything.
Hosting can start on any Linux plan, and the school website hosting guide covers the email accounts, SSL and storage a school actually needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a school website cost in India?
About ₹15,000–₹40,000 for an eight-page brochure site, ₹40,000–₹80,000 with admission forms, and a per-integration quote once fees, an ERP or SMS are connected. WebJi® quotes the build by email before payment, in INR with 18% GST shown separately.
Is a school website different from a business website?
Yes in three places: admission forms that collect a child's data, fee payment with receipts the accounts office can reconcile, and affiliation documents that must stay current. The page layout itself is a normal brochure build.
Do we need parental consent on the admission form?
Yes. Under the DPDP Act 2023, a child's personal data needs verifiable parental consent, so the form needs an unticked consent box, a record of when consent was given, and a stated retention period.
What does online fee payment cost?
The gateway charges roughly two percent per transaction plus GST on that fee. The website work is the merchant account setup, the receipt format, the settlement report and a refund path for double payments.
What are the yearly costs after the site is built?
Hosting at ₹300–₹400 a month before GST on WebJi® shared plans, the domain renewal at the registrar's rate, SSL included on the plan, and either staff time or a maintenance quote for content updates.
