Magento hosting requirements are a Linux server, PHP 8.1 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4, Apache 2.4 or Nginx 1.18, Composer, and a search service. A store that takes orders wants about 8 GB of RAM so PHP, the database, and search can run together. A shared account that blocks SSH cannot finish that setup.
What must already be installed for Magento?
Magento Open Source does not ship a server. The host must provide Linux on x86-64, a web server, PHP, a database, HTTPS with a certificate a browser trusts, and Composer on the shell. macOS is only for a copy on your laptop.
The parts a shared panel hides are the ones that stop a store: SSH, a cron job every minute, and a search process Magento can reach. If one of those is missing, the installer can still finish and the catalog will not stay healthy.
- Linux x86-64, Apache 2.4 or newer, or Nginx 1.18 or newer, and a trusted TLS certificate.
- PHP 8.1 or newer, including intl, bcmath, soap, gd, zip, curl, mbstring, and pdo_mysql.
- MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4, plus Composer 2.2 or newer.
- Elasticsearch 7.9 or newer, or OpenSearch when the release you install accepts it.
Which PHP, database, and search versions does 2.4 need?
Version numbers move with each Magento release. The 2.4.6 line many hosts still quote asks for PHP 8.1 or later, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4 or later, Composer 2.2 or later, and Elasticsearch 7.9 or later.
Later 2.4 releases raise the PHP floor and also accept OpenSearch for catalog search. Match the release you will install. A server locked to PHP 7.4 or MySQL 5.7 will not start a current store.
How much RAM and CPU should the server have?
Two gigabytes can unpack the code. It is not enough once MySQL and the search service are both running. Size the machine for those processes together, not for the installer screen.
| Use | RAM | CPU | Disk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install or staging | 4 GB | 2 vCPU | 40 GB SSD |
| One store taking orders | 8 GB | 4 vCPU | NVMe |
| Large catalog or heavy reindex | 16 GB, or search on its own host | 8 vCPU | NVMe |
OpenSearch or Elasticsearch needs its own share of that RAM. If reindex fills two weak cores, checkout waits even when the disk is fast. Add memory before you add another theme.
Can shared hosting run Magento?
A normal shared account cannot run a live Magento store. Setup needs the shell for Composer and bin/magento, a cron entry every minute, a higher PHP memory limit, and a search service the store can reach. More disk on the same shared plan does not add those.
If budget is the limit, start on a small VPS hosting plan where the stack can be installed, or on Magento hosting that already runs it. Do not buy a larger shared row and hope the indexer will keep up.
Which cache services does Magento expect?
A fast Magento store uses three caches. Varnish answers repeat catalog pages so PHP does not rebuild them. Redis holds sessions and the Magento cache, best as two separate databases. OPcache keeps compiled PHP in memory.
Switch them on after the store installs cleanly. A cron job that has stopped still makes filters slow, because the index never catches up. Cache does not replace the RAM in the table above.
How do you pick a host before you pay?
Pick the type from the requirements, not from a three-month discount. Shared is out. A VPS fits a small catalog when someone will patch Linux and the search service. Cloud fits when traffic jumps and you can add CPU. A dedicated machine fits a large catalog or a store that must not share a kernel. An empty dedicated server still needs the same stack.
- Shared: skip it. No shell and no search service means the catalog will not stay indexed.
- VPS: a small or mid catalog, if you or the host will apply updates.
- Cloud: the same stack, with room to add CPU during a sale.
- Dedicated: a large catalog or a private kernel, still with search and cron in place.
- Write down the Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce version you will run.
- Match PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, and the search service to that version. For the 2.4.6 line, that is PHP 8.1 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4, and Elasticsearch 7.9 or newer.
- Confirm SSH, Composer 2.2 or newer, and a cron entry that runs every minute.
- Confirm OpenSearch or Elasticsearch is installed and reachable, not only named on a feature list.
- Size RAM so PHP, the database, and search run at once. Use the table above.

WebJi® does not print a Magento price here. Email support@webji.services with the version, the rough catalog size, and whether you want the server managed. The quote is in INR, before 18% GST, and it arrives before you pay. We are not the managed Magento brands in the search results.
Support replies 24/7 by email in Hindi and English, and the average first reply is under 60 minutes. Do not call the office number for an install. A move from another host is free only after terms and approval. The steps for moving an existing Magento store sit on their own page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Magento hosting requirements?
Linux x86-64 with Apache 2.4 or Nginx 1.18, PHP 8.1 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4, Composer 2.2 or newer, a trusted HTTPS certificate, and Elasticsearch 7.9 or OpenSearch on a later release. You also need SSH and a cron job every minute.
How much RAM does a Magento store need?
About 8 GB and 4 vCPU when one store takes orders and PHP, MySQL, and search share the machine. 4 GB can install and stage a small catalog. A large catalog wants 16 GB, or search on its own host. 2 GB only unpacks the code.
Can Magento 2 run on shared hosting?
Not as a live store. Shared accounts that hide SSH, block a one-minute cron, and offer no OpenSearch or Elasticsearch stop during setup or reindex. Use a VPS, or a host that already runs that stack.
Which PHP version does Magento 2.4 need?
The 2.4.6 line needs PHP 8.1 or later. Later 2.4 releases raise that floor, so read the notes for the build you install. PHP 7.4 will not run a current 2.4 store.
Does Magento require Elasticsearch?
Production catalog search is required. The 2.4.6 notes name Elasticsearch 7.9 or later. Newer 2.4 releases also run on OpenSearch. A host that only offers MySQL fulltext search is not meeting the requirement.
How should I choose Magento hosting?
Match the server to your Magento version, confirm SSH, cron, and a search service, then size RAM for PHP, the database, and search together. Get the monthly price in writing before you pay. WebJi® quotes Magento by email at support@webji.services, in INR before 18% GST.
