Domain Extensions List

Quick answer: A domain extension is the label after the final dot, also called a top-level domain. The list people register from is generic endings such as .com, country codes such as .in, and newer names such as .shop. IANA publishes the root. WebJi® confirms the INR price before you pay, then adds 18% GST.

What a domain extension is

A domain extension and a TLD are the same label. In webji.in, .in is the extension and webji is the name in front of it. The TLD guide shows how that label sits above the rest of the name.

The public list is the DNS root. ICANN, through IANA, delegates each ending to a registry. A registrar such as WebJi® sells the name under that registry's rules. An ending that is not in the root will not resolve on the public internet.

Some labels are reserved for tests and private networks, including .test, .example, .invalid and .local. Those are not names to buy for a public site. .arpa is the infrastructure ending, and it is not a website name either.

Domain extension types on this list

IANA sorts the root into six groups. They are infrastructure, generic (gTLD), generic-restricted, sponsored (sTLD), country-code (ccTLD) and test. A search that asks for seven types is usually asking about the early generic names, which are a different list.

Those seven early generic names, created before ICANN in 1998, are .com, .org, .net, .int, .edu, .gov and .mil. .com, .org and .net are open. .edu, .gov and .mil are not names an ordinary Indian business can register.

A gTLD is not tied to one country. A ccTLD is a two-letter code for a country or territory. A sponsored ending is delegated for a defined community. Newer generic names from the program that opened in 2013 include .shop, .app and .blog.

Common domain extensions and what each one means

The table is the short evidence list for endings Indian buyers compare. Rupee bands are the indicative yearly ranges already published on the matching WebJi® domain pages, read on 29 October 2026, before 18% GST. The hosting pricing page does not list these domain bands. Where the cell says Quoted, that ending has no published band and is confirmed before you pay.

The first year is often cheaper than the renewal. On .xyz and .online the domain name generator page shows ₹150–500 for the first year and ₹800–1,400 to renew, before 18% GST. Read both columns before you treat a launch price as the cost of keeping the name.

Country domain extensions, including India's .in

A country-code extension is two letters. .in is India. One encyclopedia list stated 255 Latin-alphabet country codes as of 20 May 2017, and 316 as of June 2022 after internationalized codes were added. That figure is a country-code count with those dates. It is not a 2026 total of every extension.

India's family is .in plus the second-level names .co.in, .net.in, .org.in, .gen.in, .firm.in and .ind.in. .net.in is not .net, and .in.net is a different product. Register the India name through domain registration in India, and read the .in domain page before you choose the shorter ending.

Some country codes are sold worldwide. .io, .co and .ai are used by product teams far from the territory on the code. The registry can still require eligibility, a minimum term, or a higher renewal. A .com rule does not transfer.

Does a domain extension change SEO?

The ending is not a ranking prize. A generic name such as .com and a newer generic name such as .shop are not a bonus or a penalty by themselves. The page, the links and whether people trust the address do the work.

A country code can signal a country. .in is a sensible choice when the readers are in India. It does not replace a useful page. .shop is fine when it matches the brand, and a weak choice when the string looks disposable.

Domain extension price: first year and renewal

WebJi® does not publish one rupee figure for every ending. The bands in the table are indicative, from those domain pages on 29 October 2026, and 18% GST is added on the invoice. The hosting pricing page does not list them. The desk confirms the exact registration and the exact renewal in INR before you pay.

Email support@webji.services for the quote. Support is 24/7 email in Hindi and English, with an average first reply under 60 minutes. The phone on this site is the Jaipur office line, not a support line.

A first-year promotion at another registrar is that registrar's price, not WebJi®'s, and it is often not their renewal. Check whether the name is free before you compare endings. WebJi® does not list a zero-rupee extension.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the top 10 domain extensions?

The endings buyers compare first are .com, .net, .org, .in, .co.in, .io, .ai, .xyz, .online and .shop. .com, .in, .co.in, .io, .ai, .xyz and .online have indicative INR bands in the table above. .net, .org and .shop are quoted before you pay.

How many domain extensions are there?

There is no single 2026 total here. A registrar catalog describes more than a thousand endings you can search. The country-code count on the encyclopedia list was 316 as of June 2022, including internationalized codes. IANA publishes the live root, and that list changes.

What is the difference between .in and .com?

.com is an open generic ending used everywhere. .in is India's country code. .co.in is a second-level name under .in, not a spelling of .com. Choose .in or .co.in when the site is for India, and .com when the name should read as a global default.

Are new endings such as .shop bad for SEO?

No. A newer generic ending is not a penalty by itself. It is judged like any other name: the page, the links and whether people trust the address. It is a weak choice only when the string looks disposable.

Why do some domain extensions cost more at renewal?

Registries set a wholesale price, and a first-year promotion often sits below it. On the domain name generator page, .xyz and .online show ₹150–500 for the first year and ₹800–1,400 to renew, before 18% GST. Read the renewal column before you register.

Can I register a .ai domain from India?

Yes. WebJi® can quote a .ai name in INR. The .ai domain page shows ₹6,000–8,000 to register and ₹6,500–8,500 to renew, with a two-year minimum, before 18% GST. The exact figure is confirmed before you pay. .ai is a country code, not an Indian ending.
